07 May AVL Smart ADAS Analyzer
Vehicles with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for automated and connected driving are becoming a must have to attract new car buyers. ALP.Lab has invested into equipment as well as in training and education of its engineers concerning ADAS/AD testing. ALP.Lab is working together with leading vendors like Humanetics and 4active Systems for improving equipment like robot testing platforms, Vehicle Dummies and Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs). Recently, ALP.Lab evaluated AVL´s Smart ADAS Analyzer being able to automatically generate compliant with the regulations.
Today driver assistance systems are getting more and more attractive and are moving quickly from premium into small and medium size vehicles. Vehicle manufacturers are already challenged to keep up with NCAP regulations for each market. While Advanced Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Steering Support (LSS) and other Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) help to differentiate products, they are becoming a must have to attract new car buyers and will soon be a legal requirement to sell cars into certain market.
This brings along a massive increase of testing at the proving grounds to confirm features are working, are compliant with regulations and achieve 5-star NCAP ratings.
The new AVL Smart ADAS Analyzer has been developed to ease the pain of test evaluation and reporting. Immediately after test execution, the test engineer knows that the test has been performed correctly. Results are calculated and visually presented without searching. Reports are generated on the fly including comparison between different variants no matter, if the data comes from the test track or from simulation.
The development and qualification of such a tool is only possible with the right partners. AVL and ALP.Lab performed test campaigns at the proving ground to record all relevant data. AVL and Humanetics defined, implemented and tested a simple workflow to confirm that the tool is easy to handle. The Linz Center of Mechatronics have re-calculated the results to make sure the AVL software quality is at the highest level. Additionally, AVL is working closely with certified NCAP laboratories to be the first to achieve EURO-NCAP approval.
In addition to proving ground testing solutions AVL is working on a comprehensive scenario based Verification and Validation Toolchain that can generate operational scenarios, create relevant test cases, and execute testing and homologation of ADAS and AD functions in combined virtual and real road environments. It also enables users to store data, analyze KPI’s, create test reports and make sense of the vast amounts of data generated through simulations, virtual and real road testing.
